I buy all kinds, try them all, layer them, switch them up to see which combination gives the most dazzling and voluminous effect. But, when it comes to extensions....the mascara issue becomes a bit tricky. In this instance, you cannot use regular or waterproof mascaras. Since the objective with extensions is to give the illusion that  your lashes are real,voluminous and that they  already have mascara on them. Summer 2014 Makeup Trends 07/15/2014 0 Comments When it comes to makeup trends, 2014 is not the summer for pastels. It’s time to go brash and bold with a pop of neon and some eyelash flair. Play around with the runway trends below! Purple Passion Rather than a deep wintry purple, color your eyelids with shades of lavender, lilac and orchid. If your skin tone can handle it, have some fun with purple-tinted blush or lip gloss. Pick  one feature to highlight with purple and wear it with passion! Hot Lips Sure, soft pink lips are always acceptable in summertime, but the warm weather is trending toward hot pinks and neon orange. Chose lipstick with a velvety matte finish. If you aren’t daring enough to go bold and bright on your lips, then paint your nails with a pop of neon and you’ll still be making a statement! Line Those Eyes You can’t go wrong with shades of blue this summer—especially aquatic teals! You can subtly line or go all out and shade your eyes top and bottom with a shadow liner. White liner is also making a comeback this summer, both on the top and bottom lashes. We think white liner coupled with some of that hot neon lipstick is quite the trend-setting look! When lining your eyes with black, go for bold, angular geometric shapes that take the cat-eye to a whole other level! Bust Out and Strip Eyelashes are all the rage this summer. Bridal-licious "Get The Look" 07/01/2014 0 Comments Hi Lash Lovers, I'm back for another segment of 'Get The Look'!  I am super excited to give the beauty breakdown of a Beautiful Bride! I think after her makeup consultation plus a  couple of things, we achieved just the perfect  Bridal Beauty look for her. 1. Prep the Skin I use vegan eye cream from 100% pure line... just a little dab will do ya. Pat under the eyes using your ring finger, so as to be as delicate as possible for that area of the face.  This caffeine enriched product should de-puff and hydrate at the same time....if that doesn't work...have bride use an ice cube and run the cube over the under eye area a couple times if puffy. :)) Depending on skin and texture, I always moisturize with Embryolisse and/or a Primer. I used Makeup Forever's Mattifying Primer on her T-Zone                                                                       to control oiliness throughout the evening. 2. Eyes Prep the eye area with Urban Decay Original Primer for staying power.(Love this stuff) Next I used a Bobbi Brown highlight color palette (Sandwash Eye Palette) that is just an amazing little palette of radiance....used Sunshine shimmer on lids. Also I brought this color into the inner corners of the eye to give the illusion that she is more awake and that her eyes are farther apart. Over the peach color I used Metallic Peach from Stila on her lids (this is a metallic color but the consistency is not a powder shadow per se because the texture is extremely malleable and amazing. But had to put it on with my finger and not the mixing medium it comes with which is fine) but this just made her eyes pop! I used the Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay and brushed on Limit onto the creases and blended, then used Factory and Liar on the outer corners to really draw  the eye up and out. Then, Kohl eyeliner in Costa Riche from Mac on the upper lids and soften line and used I Get No Kick Liner from Mac on lower lash line to once again brighten the eye area and make the whites of her eyes appear more white. (a trick of the trade) Used Laura Mercier Noir Gel Liner on a straight edge brush and transferred it onto  the upper lash line...whatever was left over from this with a little mix of Factory and Liar from above was brought a bit under her lower lashes. Her lashes were enhanced with extensions from our very own Esther Bolkin, the Director of Glad Lash! She wore single strand lashes in our Signature Mink C Curl . 20 x 9, 10 and 11mm. They were absolutely perfect...looked so natural and beautiful. I also used Glad Lash's mascara that is intended for eyelash extensions (Excellent Volume Up Mascara in Black)....woohoo! Glad Lash thinks of everything! Because finishing off an eye makeup with mascara is just a necessity in my opinion. :))  ** I do recommend putting the mascara on with a small fan brush if you have because it's a more delicate application than the  mascara wand itself, but that is my opinion. 3. Face Now that her face has been able to sit with the moisturizer/primer on it for a bit .it's showtime with the highlighting. I used YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch in 2.5 on her cheeks, forehead, nose as well as the area in-between her nose and middle of her upper lip, and chin. Then blended with a Beauty Blender with is the best! Used Makeup Forever's HD foundation in N120 on her and Amazing Cosmetics concealer in Medium Gold for under eyes. Blended it all onto the skin so it looked seamless. And of course always blend into the next area as well. Again, blended with Beauty Blender. Cream Blush...the bride loved the look of pink cheeks so that's exactly what I gave her! This was perfection on her skin tone, Mac Sweet William which is a luminescent cream blush I added to the apples of her cheeks and blended up. Once powdered, I used Benefit's Hoola on cheek bones to address the contouring. Also added a bit of Hoola onto temples and under chin so light is absorbed in those areas. 4. Brows Anastasia Waterproof Gel on brows and filled in with Mac's Soft Charcoal and Browning. Highlight brows with the highlight color in this palette. 5.  Lips Mac Dervish Lip Liner Too Faced Melted Peony lip color (Obsessed with these long wearing colors) Mac Dazzle Glass in 'Steppin Ou't on top for a pop of sheen. Whalllah!! Bride=Stunning! Your Morning Eye Fix-it Routine 06/26/2014 0 Comments Your eyes are the windows to your soul—they’re also the mirror to your age…and sometimes to the raucous good time you had last night! Bloodshot eyes, wrinkly undereye skin, dark circles and puffiness not only defy your age, but also speak  to late nights and poor nutrition. Disguise your age and your partying with the following anti-aging eye remedies. Be Cool Whether your eyes are puffy and red from a late-night studying session or a night on the town, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you hide the evidence…and fast! Apply a cold compress to ease the swelling and red eye. You can use the old-fashioned trick of a cold cucumber, or you can apply a cold tea compress. Caffeinated teas like green and black help constrict blood vessels to zap away puffiness and firm the skin around the eyes. If your eyes are red and irritated, best to apply a cold herbal compress, like anti-inflammatory Time for a little history lesson, because every lash lover should know from where her trusty lash extensions came. The Parisians used to create false lashes by “sewing” hair into the eyelid without anesthetics—ouch! And strip lashes dashed through Europe in the late 19th century, but it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that eyelash extensions really “stole the scene.” In 1916, director D.W. Griffith envisioned lashes so long they “brush the cheeks” and eyes so bright they “shine larger than life. ”So, he outfitted his leading lady, Seena  Owen with the first documented set of  eyelash extensions, captured on the silver  screen in Griffith’s film,Intolerance. Griffith  contracted a local wig maker, who wove  strands of human hair through fine gauze, and then attached the eyelash strips to  Owen’s eyes. Lashes have journeyed quite the distance since their 1916 debut,  and enjoyed many incarnations along the way. 1930s Fringe The 1930s was a time when makeup was bold and daring, a way for a woman to express her unique personality and pizazz. During this era, eyelash extensions enjoyed a surge of popularity. Salons applied strip lashes or individual lashes to the clients’ natural lashes, but eyelash extensions weren’t multipurpose back then. Shades were limited and difficult to match, and extensions only lengthened eyelashes. As we drifted into the 1940s—with more women entering the workforce— and the 1950s—when domesticity reached its peak—beauty trends tended toward the more natural, and eyelashes fell out of favor and into the exclusive reach of movie stars and celebrities. 1960s Falsie Craze False eyelashes became all the rage in the 1960s. New materials and manufacturing methods made eyelash extensions affordable for all. You had the expensive falsies— made from mink, sable, seal and human hair! And the cheaper varieties—made from  synthetic materials like plastic. Some were two-toned, some were tweed and all were  often doubled up into two strip sets. It seems there was no such thing as too big or gaudy  in the sixties! The Twiggy look personifies lash extensions of the sixties. Waif-like model Twiggy wore two strips of lashes on both her top and bottom lids to create her glam signature look. This is a look that never goes out of style, as it seems each season there’s a celeb or a fashion figure walking down that catwalk sporting the Twiggy look. Protect Your Eyes When Traveling 05/05/2014 0 Comments Nothing ruins a vacation more than a nagging, uncomfortable health condition that keeps you bed bound rather than beach bound. We stock our travel bags with aspirin for migraines, ibuprofen for cramps, and antacids for indigestion, but tend to overlook the necessary precautions to protect the health of our eyes while vacationing. Whether you’re planning for a tropical getaway or a ski slope siesta, you don’t want to spoil a minute of fun with dry, burning eyes or blurred vision… and you certainly don’t want to ruin the look of your new lash extensions! Breeze through the following tips to make sure you’re well prepared to keep your beautiful peepers shining on holiday. Fun in the Sun and Snow UV rays don’t just damage your skin. The sun can cause short-term vision problems in the form of irritation, redness, hypersensitivity to light, swelling and sun-burnt eyes. Fail to protect your eyes on a regular basis and you’re looking at long-term damage such as cataracts, macular degeneration, abnormal growths of the eyelid and cancer of the eye. Protection is easy. Invest in a pair of 100% broad-spectrum sunglasses that block UVA and UVB rays. Don’t be deceived by sunglass shade—dark lens don’t mean the glasses are any more protective. Wrap around shades are the most effective, as they block the sun from every angle. Hitting the slopes? You still need a pair of sports sunglasses protecting your baby blues. The sun’s rays sneak through clouds, and the higher the altitude and more reflective the surface (think snow), the more intense the UV penetration. Sunglasses also protect from sand, wind and dust, regardless of climate. Make it a habit to wear sunglasses daily, whether you’re vacationing or not! Ward Off Dry Eye  Traveling is hard on the eyes. The heating and cooling systems in airplanes and hotels suck moisture from the air and dry out your eyes. When packing for a flight (or even a road trip), be sure to include preservative-free artificial tears or a rewetting solution in order to moisten your eyes throughout the flight. Avoid eye drops that contain preservatives, as they cause your blood vessels to constrict.  Tears evaporate rapidly in low-humidity climates, so you’ll want to have those drops handy in arid environments like deserts and windy environments like mountains. If you are swimming in chlorinated pools, keep your hands away from your eyes. The chlorine chemicals will irritate and exacerbate dry eyes. If you are particularly susceptible, wear some fancy goggles during your swim. Don’t go overboard on the AC. Lower the air, especially when you’re sleeping, so you don’t wake up to itchy, dry eyes that can’t handle your fancy new eyeliner and mascara. And always remove your contact lenses when sleeping. If the lenses dry out, they can stick to the corneas and peel off tissue when you finally remove them! Sleeping in your eye makeup? That’s a no-no, ladies!
